Ines Kovačič

Ines Kovačič enjoys exploring the materiality of everyday objects. She is fascinated by mimicking organic structures, the microcosm, plants, and more. She uses clay or porcelain as an organic medium, combining it with various materials such as cotton wool, paper, fiberglass, metal mesh, and others. She also loves the aesthetics of decay, the traces of aggressive shaping, the raw look of clay, and cracks—everything that reveals the true nature of the material. Her work involves a great deal of experimentation, often intuitive, as she moves away from traditional wheel-thrown pottery. She is also interested in how objects deform during firing, gaining new, partly accidental shapes and textures. She devotes most of her time to teaching.
