Jana Mršnik - BelaBela

Jana Mršnik is an independent cultural creator, designer, and educator. Her independent projects combine textile and product design with spatial design, and she is also active in the field of textile art. She creates under her own brand, BelaBela, which is recognized for exploring innovative, modular, and three-dimensional textile structures. Through the brand, she successfully intertwines industrial production with traditional craftsmanship and experiments with materials to create unique, sustainable solutions and ambient elements for contemporary interiors. She is an assistant professor of textile and product design at the Faculty of Design and an assistant in textile design at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering in Ljubljana. She regularly exhibits her work both at home and abroad and has received several national and international awards for her designs.
BelaBela is a design brand that views modularity as a creative principle at the intersection of textile design, product design, and textile art. By experimenting with materials, structures, and construction solutions, it develops transformable systems that transition between textile, object, and space, allowing for various ways of use. It understands modularity as an open system that empowers the user to co-create the final form and opens up possibilities for different interpretations of the same product. The products shift between different functions and, through their form, naming, and usage, play with the perception of space, material, and light. The result is a range of spatial textiles, interior products, lighting, jewelry, and other transformable objects that combine functionality, sustainability, and a distinct material sensibility. Individual products are not finished wholes, but rather elements of an open, constantly evolving design system.
