PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Silk Carnations Bouquet Brooch offers a modern interpretation of one of the more important symbols of Slovenian cultural identity.

Designed as multi-layered bobbin lace, it features a characteristic serrated carnation outline and is made using the narrow tape lacemaking technique. The bobbin lace is made from silk thread produced using historically restored techniques from 60 hand-unwound cocoons. The thread is dyed a muted shade of red, typical of 'Slovenian' carnations, and has a slightly marbled appearance due to the preserved sericin. The flower is protected by a hand-crafted, gilded brass base with a stainless-steel pin that abstracts its shape and translates it into a contemporary design language. The brooch was created as part of the research work of the RLB Institute for Sericulture and Silk Craft, which is working to re-establish a local silk production and processing chain in Slovenia. By integrating advanced AI technologies, the institute is realising a sustainable vision for the future of natural materials. The European silkworm hybrids were provided by Silvia Cappellozza, Consiglio per la Ricerca in Agricoltura e l'Analisi dell'Economia Agraria, Centro di Ricerca Agricoltura e Ambiente (CREA-AA), Padova, Italy.
