Hand-woven corn husk rug
First, we braid the corn husks and then sew them into a circular or oval shape. Corn husks have been used traditionally by cultures all over the world. Products made from corn husks can be found among Native Americans as well as in Japanese craftsmanship; in the Slovenian tradition, the material is used for doormats. The goal of this project is also to pass on knowledge and preserve this traditional crafting technique. It is a simple example of a circular economy, where waste becomes the primary raw material, and once its life cycle is complete, the product can be composted.
