The From Ljubljana to Idrija bobbin lace is a handmade masterpiece with a geographical indication Idrija Lace.
Idrija is an important centre of lacemaking knowledge, and it is from here that the craft of lace design and production has spread throughout the world. In addition to the traditional knowledge of lace making, new approaches and innovative products are developed in Idrija, bringing lace in line with contemporary trends in fashion, arts and crafts.
Just like the road from Godovič to Idrija, the lace doily is full of twists and turns, but with six pairs of bobbins riding on it instead of cars. Each product is handmade, unique and bears the geographical indication Idrija Lace, which guarantees the quality of the product.
The universal value of Idrija lace has been recognised by its inclusion in UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This doily commemorates the journey from Ljubljana to Idrija. This product bears the Idrija Lace geographical indication and the certificate of quality of the Idrija Selected territorial collective trademark.
The Idrija Tourism Board, in collaboration with local providers and other organisations, strives to develop compelling, quality products and services that showcase the narratives of the Idrija region. In the case of bobbin lace, the Board partners with established pattern drawers who design the lace patterns and various lacemakers who produce the lace.
