The Bee bobbin lace brooch is a handmade bobbin lace masterpiece with geographical indication Idrija Lace.
Idrija is an important centre of lacemaking knowledge, and it is from here that the craft of lace design and production has spread throughout the world.
Mining, beekeeping and lacemaking have been intertwined in Idrija for centuries. It is believed that the art of beekeeping came to Idrija with foreign miners, who often took up beekeeping as a means of relaxation. The industrious bee also found its way into lacemaking. Each product is handmade, unique and bears the geographical indication Idrija Lace, which guarantees the quality of the product.
The universal value of Idrija lace has been recognised by its inclusion in UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This product bears the Idrija Lace geographical indication and the certificate of quality of the Idrija Selected territorial collective trademark.
The Idrija Tourism Board, in collaboration with local providers and other organisations, strives to develop compelling, quality products and services that showcase the narratives of the Idrija region. In the case of bobbin lace, the Board partners with established pattern drawers who design the lace patterns and various lacemakers who produce the lace.
