Upcycled Socks

Beti is Europe's leading producer of functional, sustainable yarns. The company participates in the supply chains of global fashion and sports brands such as Nike, Lululemon and Burberry. Beti produces yarns in a wide range of colours to customer specifications. This ensures that only essential resources are used, and unnecessary inventory is not built up - however, there are sometimes spools of yarn left in the company warehouse, and the process also generates technological waste, which the company turns into new upcycled products, such as upcycle^ socks.

The upcycled product line is the result of collaboration between Beti, designer Katja Keserič Markovič and the social enterprise Knof. The unique socks are made from the remnants of quality yarn found in Bela krajina and Dolenjska, which is otherwise used for functional sportswear Their design is based on the principles of product eco-design: a sustainable product is made from recycled materials, is functional and has a long life. The pattern on the sock was inspired by the carbon footprint, or the footprint that people leave on the world through their actions and choices, including everyday ones.

The packaging of the product is minimalist. The banners are currently only available in Slovenian. The packaging material was developed and produced by the Pulp and Paper Institute from invasive plants growing in Slovenia. The packaging thus actively contributes to a positive environmental impact.
