The Lake in the Rain cup is hand-blown, with a relief of concentric circles on the base.
Lake in the Rain is a collection of products that speak about water, memories, the ripples created when a drop on the surface of water interferes with another drop, about interdependence and the urge to cooperate, emphasizing the idea that each individual is part of the whole. In designing the cups, the artist referred to memory: her own childhood memories of splashing in puddles, raindrops on the shore of Piran Bay one morning, or those same drops when she was sitting by the lake, and how they had disrupted her reading. She observed the constant movement, interplay, the ripples of water and light, and translated them into a usable product that invites us to touch and play with light. The shape of the cup, with concentric circles at the bottom that caress the hand, evokes individual memories and creates different stories. The product’s message engages the user emotionally, often without conscious awareness. The cup is part of the Lake series, which won the Designer of the Year award.
Glass is an infinitely recyclable material; the products are sustainable and environmentally friendly and do not change the water’s quality or its smell or taste.
The product is distinctive and original, and the technology is used to its fullest potential in terms of combining traditional and modern methods. The art of hand-blown glass has a long and rich tradition in Slovenia, but unfortunately, this is being lost. The artist employs a contemporary design approach to preserve and build on centuries-old knowledge and skills in hand-blowing and traditional glass cutting, translating them into a modern language. Glass is an infinitely recyclable material, and the products are sustainable and environmentally friendly.
The handmade packaging for one cup protects the product perfectly during transport. Its shape makes the product resistant to breakage, despite the material used.
