Scarfs Perennis

An accessory with a utilitarian purpose, the scarf assumes the role of an abstract, soft pictorial surface on which narratives are constructed. Over the past decade, the designer has used knitwear to express her love of drawing, patterns, colour, thread structure and knitting. The book Architectura perennis, whose cover served as the basis for the pattern on the scarf, was first published in Ljubljana in 1941. The author of the drawing and the book is the Slovenian architect Jože Plečnik (1872–1957). The original drawing is held by the Plečnik House MGML. The pattern was inspired by Slovenia's architectural heritage and was created in collaboration with the Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana, Plečnik House, to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of the architect Plečnik.

Scarf Perennis - wool

Perennis is a soft wool scarf with a pattern inspired by the cover illustration of architect Jože Plečnik's book Architectura perennis. The design, created by Ksenija Baraga, translates the architectural drawing into an industrial knitted fashion accessory, made in Slovenia from the finest noble materials. The resulting product is soft, comfortable, durable and easy to care for.

Scarf Perennis - viscose

Perennis is a soft cotton and viscose scarf with a pattern inspired by the cover illustration of architect Jože Plečnik's book Architectura perennis. The design, created by Ksenija Baraga, translates the architectural drawing into an industrial knitted fashion accessory, made in Slovenia from the finest noble materials. The resulting product is soft, comfortable, durable and easy to care for. Perennis viscose scarf features a bright colourful border.

The scarf collection is in the permanent collection of the Department of Crafts and Trades at the Slovenian Ethnographic Museum (SEM) and in the permanent collection of the National Museum of Slovenia. In 2015, it was awarded the Brumen Foundation's Excellence Award at the 7th Biennial of Slovenian Visual Communication. The scarves have been shown at the following exhibitions: MAN and TIME - the first 100 years, a permanent exhibition at the SEM; The Treasures of Slovenian Creativity at the Qujiang Museum of Fine Arts in Xi'an, China; Lace Ties at the SEM; Images of Time at the Cankarjev dom, Ljubljana; the 7th Biennial of Slovenian Visual Communication at the National Gallery, Ljubljana; Design Month; Pop-up Home; and Let’s Wear Scarves at the ULUPUH Gallery in Zagreb.

The product is designed and knitted in Slovenia, helping to maintain employment and expertise at the remaining artisan knitwear producers, Žalac and Pislak. The final manual finish of the scarf is the work of Ksenija Baraga from Baragaga, d.o.o. The cardboard packaging features a black and white pattern, similar to that of the knitted fabric. The packaging is produced by AKI, d.o.o. in Izlake and is made from 94% recycled cardboard and 6% cellulose fibre. The scarf comes with a short graphic-textual explanation of the pattern in either Slovenian or English. Ksenija Baraga designed the product, Ana Baraga realised the design.
