Scarfs with Plečnik's motives

An accessory with a utilitarian purpose, the scarf assumes the role of an abstract, soft pictorial surface on which narratives are constructed. Soft, comfortable, durable and easy to care for, these knitwear pieces are made from the finest materials sourced from Italian spinning mills. Over the past decade, the designer has used knitwear to express her love of drawing, pattern, colour, thread structure and knitting. This collection aims to translate the act of drawing into the realm of industrial knitwear. The pattern is inspired by Slovenia's architectural heritage and was created in collaboration with the Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana, Plečnik House, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of architect Jože Plečnik (1872-1957). The design depicts the exterior of the National and University Library in Ljubljana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Scarf NUK

NUK is a soft wool scarf with a pattern inspired by a drawing of the facade of the National and University Library by Slovenian architect Jože Plečnik. The design, created by Ksenija Baraga, translates the architectural drawing into an industrial knitted fashion accessory, made in Slovenia from the finest noble materials. The resulting product is soft, comfortable, durable and easy to care for.

Scarf Vignette

Vignette is a soft wool scarf with a pattern inspired by the drawings of vignettes that architect Jože Plečnik used for decorating books. The design, created by Ksenija Baraga, translates the drawings into an industrial knitted fashion accessory, made in Slovenia from the finest noble materials. The resulting product is soft, comfortable, durable and easy to care for.

The scarf collection is part of the permanent collection of the Department of Crafts and Trades at the Slovenian Ethnographic Museum (SEM) and part of the permanent collection of the National Museum of Slovenia. In 2015, it was awarded the Brumen Foundation's Excellence Award at the 7th Biennial of Slovenian Visual Communication. The scarves have been shown at the following exhibitions: MAN and TIME - the first 100 years, a permanent exhibition at the SEM; The Treasures of Slovenian Creativity at the Qujiang Museum of Fine Arts in Xi'an, China; Lace Ties at the SEM; Images of Time at the Cankarjev dom, Ljubljana; the 7th Biennial of Slovenian Visual Communication at the National Gallery, Ljubljana; Design Month; Pop-up Home; and Let’s Wear Scarves at the ULUPUH Gallery in Zagreb.

The product is designed and knitted in Slovenia, helping to maintain employment and expertise at the remaining artisan knitwear producers, Žalac and Pislak. The cardboard packaging features a black and white pattern similar to that of the knitted fabric. The packaging is produced by AKI, d.o.o. in Izlake and is made from 94% recycled cardboard and 6% cellulose fibre. The scarf comes with a short graphic-textual explanation of the pattern in either Slovenian or English. Ksenija Baraga designed the product, Ana Baraga realised the design.
